Five more trains will run on a Sunday between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury from December, Transport for Wales has announced.

Outlining its new timetable, which will come into effect from Sunday, 15 December, the company said the total number of services on the Cambrian Service between Aberystwyth and Shrewsbury will increase from 16 to 21.

There will be 10 Sunday services from Shrewsbury to Aberystwyth and 11 in the opposite direction.

It is part of a country-wide slew of improvements to Sunday services.

The timetable has also seen “additional time built in” on Cambrian Line services “for when Bow Street Station is officially built and open”.

The exact date of the opening is still not known.

Customer experience director for Transport for Wales, Colin Lea, said: “We’ve committed to giving customers the service they deserve on a Sunday and are delighted to be able to make these improvements.

“Some lines which never had a Sunday service before, will now be connected, giving greater leisure and economic benefits to so many areas.

“A huge amount of hard work has gone into developing this timetable for our customers and while there have been challenges on the way, we are pleased to get this over the line.

“We’ve seen some fantastic collaboration with our partners in Network Rail in securing access for earlier and later services, by moving planned maintenance times and I’d like to thank all involved for their hard work.”
