Madam,
I cannot understand why county councillors and town councillors are not taking any notice of people’s opposition to the plans to move Cardigan Library to the county council offices at Morgan Street. Morgan Street may well be suitable for office accommodation, but certainly not as an efficient library for Cardigan town and the surrounding area. Having access to computers and the internet and a library service is a very important part of being able to live a full life. People in Cardigan and the surrounding area deserve a library service which may be able to open up their world. People need to be able to choose from a wide selection of books for all ages; people need to be able to have the opportunity to try something different; find information easily; get to grips with computers and the internet; come to events for children, families and adults; share at storytimes and meet other people in a friendly community space. Most of this will not be possible at Morgan Street as the space there is too small.Yes, the library at Aberaeron is fine. But user figures and issues for both libraries need to be compared. Cardigan Library is the second busiest library in Ceredigion. It is certainly not acceptable to axe such an important asset in South Ceredigion.Pembrokeshire County Council has seen fit to look at the possibility of external funding and to invest in a library service that they will be able to be proud of. Perhaps it is time for Ceredigion County Council to take a leaf from its neighbour’s book in order to be able to provide the library service that both staff and residents in all areas within Ceredigion deserve.
Yours etc,Eleri Evans, Tanygroes
