We were sad to hear of the recent death of Morgan Vaughan at the age of 91. Morgan took an active interest in the 20th century history of Tywyn, which he was always happy to share with others.

When I requested an interview about his experiences as a teenager in a farming family in wartime Tywyn and Happy Valley, he was enthusiastic to take part and for the recording to be used as a resource along with other materials in his possession.

Though his health was failing, he was keen to show his support for the history society. Morgan was a speaker at one of the meetings looking at the local impact of the Second World War and he attended the opening ceremony for the Town Trail as an honoured guest.

He was himself active in shaping the post-war history of Tywyn and Meirionnydd, serving for many years as a councillor in both authorities and several times as an officer. Among his many achievements he will be remembered most for this tireless work in developing the cottage hospital, campaigning for the latest equipment and the modern extension. We extend our sympathy to his family and friends.
