MORMONS in the Porthmadog area are celebrating after securing their own chapel at long last.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saint’s new meeting house is situated opposite Huws Gray’s yard off Penamser Road, which includes a chapel, offices, classrooms and a kitchen which has been created by modifying a vacant office suite.
Having met at Y Ganolfan in Porthmadog for many years the branch are now pleased they will no longer need to set out all the chairs in the chapel area every Sunday and connect up keyboards and speaker systems.
Branch president, Christopher Jones of Criccieth, said: “The new meeting house will open up all sorts of opportunities."
There is also the intention of holding family history classes, open to the public, at the meeting house along with marriage counselling and home-making classes.
“We also have a good number of social activities in our calendar so having our own home will increase our potential for fun,” added Mr Jones.
Sunday meetings start at 10am, with bilingual sacrament (communion).
