Tributes have been made to a mechanic at a local motorcycle shop in Pant Glas, who died suddenly at the age of just 25.
Father-of-one Rhys Fraser Hughes (pictured) passed away on Friday, 12 July.
The motorcycling community has paid tribute and will ride in procession in Rhys’s memory on the day of his funeral.
Rhys was a former mechanic at Dragon Custom Cycles in Y Felinheli. He was remembered as a “loved member of the Dragon Motorcycles family”, saying “words cannot express how much we miss him”.
After working there, Rhys, from Deiniolen, had moved on to Gwion Prys Motorcycles in Pant Glas.
The owners of the shop posted the news of Rhys’ death on social media, saying: “Rhys came to work for us in May, and in no time at all he became a valued member of the team here and was very popular amongst our customers. He will be sadly missed.”
A service of celebration and thanksgiving for Rhys’ life will be held at Bangor Crematorium on Friday, 26 July.
Team members and friends of both shops will be riding their bikes to the crematorium that morning to pay their respects and have urged other local motorcyclists to do the same.
A trust fund has also been set up in his memory to raise money for Rhys’ son, Guto, with the intention of giving him “the best possible start to his adult life”.
The JustGiving page, created by his step-sister MaryAnne, describes Rhys as a “well loved, friendly young man whose death has left us all heartbroken and lost”.
“He was a loving father, son, brother, grandson, uncle and nephew. He was a friend to everyone he met and a very talented young man.”
Over £800 of the £1,000 target has been raised so far.
