A motorcyclist has died followed a crash on the A493.

North Wales Police have confirmed that a man in his seventies died at the scene.

The A493 between Dolgellau and Tywyn, where the crash occurred, remains closed.

A police spokesperson said: "Sadly, a man in his seventies has died following a road traffic collision on the A493 in Meirionnydd earlier this afternoon.

Shortly before 2.30pm, police were notified of a two-vehicle collision involving a blue and white BMW motorcycle and silver coloured Kia Sportage on the A493 road between Dolgellau and Tywyn.

"The emergency services were called to the scene and sadly the motorcyclist, despite best efforts, was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The road remains closed at this time."

Sergeant Liam Morris of the Roads Policing Unit added: “We’d like to offer our sincerest sympathies to the gentleman’s family at this difficult time.

“Sadly, this is now being investigated as a fatal road traffic collision. We are appealing to anybody who may have information, or anybody who may have been travelling along the A493 and may have dash cam footage, to contact us.

“The A493 at Friog remains closed at this time to allow colleagues from the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit to carry out their initial investigation, and we’d like to thank motorists for their cooperation and understanding”.
