A cheque for £1,500 was raised for the Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team during the Dyfi Enduro event.
The event, held on Sunday 5 May, brings 1,000 hardy mountain bikers to Machynlleth each year and has run since 2001.
The event continues to attract cyclists from all over the UK to the challenge of riding 60km of the Dyfi Forest’s toughest trails, starting and finishing in Machynlleth.
On the Friday after the event, the event’s crew, helpers and marshals gathered together for a celebratory buffet in the White Lion pub as a way to thank everyone for their efforts and support.
This year, the event raised £1,500 for Aberdyfi Search and Rescue Team, with members of the team on hand at the event to accept the cheque from event organisers.
A Dyfi Enduro spokesperson said: “The team plays a vital role in keeping our riders safe on the day of the event and we thank them wholeheartedly for their valued efforts and contribution to the Dyfi Enduro.”
“This year’s gathering was particularly poignant as we recently lost a much-loved member of the Dyfi Enduro event family and Dyfi mountain bike community,” the spokesperson added.
“David ‘Dai’ Speake was a familiar, friendly face at the event. Running the Dyfi Enduro feed station for many years, he will be sorely missed by all of us.
“Riders in this year’s event wore ribbons in an effort to raise awareness of prostate cancer. Through collections at the event and a donation from the event itself, £1,500 was raised for Prostate Cancer UK and a cheque presented to Dai’s family."
