A hike to the top of Cader Idris by members of Dolgellau Cricket Club last Sunday raised £1,500 for club funds and the mental health charity, Open up Cricket.
Eighteen members from the mens, ladies and youth sections braved the sub zero weather and numbing wind to climb to the summit, some in full batting kit. To cap the day the team held there first game of the season albeit a few thousand feet above their normal Marian home.
Sadly the ball was eventually lost to the weather after 2nd XI Captain Richard Rees skied a ‘googly’ from Dave Jenkins into Llyn y Gader, 300 feet below.
It’s been a busy time for the club with ground improvements and preparing the playing surface for the season which started on 28 April.
Dolgellau’s first home game is the 2nd team against Llangollen on 4 May with the firsts on Monday, 6 May against Bethesda.
The club would like to thank all who took part in the walk and also all who have sponsored them.
