Madam,

I would support Liz Saville Roberts position (last week’s Cambrian News, ‘Local MP backs plans for cheaper London digs’). MPs could be better served by accommodation being provided.

The security issues could be resolved, probably to a better risk level than the current standard, by housing them in a small number of separate locations.

The fact that parliament does not sit all-year-round could mean that the same accommodation could be made available at other times to other personnel visiting London for various reasons who need similar provisions - perhaps including the security arrangements (eg armed forces personnel). Alternatively, it could be used for VIP tourists or educational/trade relations visits, for example.

It would save a whole lot of blurriness about the MPs’ expenses claims. It would also save considerably on costs of finding locations for new MPs and simplify leasing issues and changes of MPs.

‘Serviced Accommodation’, even for university students, is these days of far higher standard than was common just 30 years ago, and in my view would be extremely acceptable if I had to stay in it. Modern standards include full en-suite facilities, with shared reception rooms, whereas I have stayed in the past in locations with shared bathrooms, and even dormitory/shared bedrooms, for courses, etc, and I do not mind at all. MPs will need individual rooms for working in, and for personal items, but often would not need to lease whole flats.

Yours etc

David Church

Tywyn.
