The MPs for Dwyfor Meirionnydd and Ynys Mon are calling on Prime Minister Andy Burnham to deliver justice to over eleven thousand women in their constituencies affected by changes to the state pension age.

They join fellow Plaid Cymru MPs Ben Lake (Ceredigion Preseli) and Ann Davies (Caerfyrddin), calling for government action for WASPI women, who have spent years campaigning for compensation after seeing their retirement plans disrupted.

Some were forced to delay retirement, draw on savings or face financial hardship because of insufficient notice of the changes. 

Mrs Saville Roberts said: “There are nearly seven thousand women in Dwyfor Meirionnydd who have been affected by these pension age changes.

“For many, the impact has been profound, disrupting retirement plans carefully made over decades. Women across our communities did everything that was asked of them.

“They worked hard, paid into the system, and expected to receive their state pension at the age they had been promised.

“The Ombudsman has recognised mistakes were made in the way these changes were communicated.

“Yet despite years of campaigning, the women affected are still waiting for justice. These women deserve more than apologies.

“They deserve fair compensation and proper recognition of the hardship they have endured.

“The Prime Minister should engage with representatives of affected women and deliver the redress they have waited so long to receive.”

Llinos Medi added: “Women across Ynys Môn and throughout Wales have waited far too long for justice.

“Many planned their retirements in good faith, only to discover the rules had changed without adequate notice, leaving them facing uncertainty and financial hardship.

“In Ynys Môn there are nearly 5,000 WASPI women estimated to be eligible under those recommendations.

“These women deserve better and UK Government under the leadership of a new Prime Minister must now do the right thing.”
