A YOUNG mum from Abererch who is battling terminal cancer has vowed to fight on to find further treatment.

Donna McClelland was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011, aged just 35, and needed an emergency mastectomy in December that year.

After the operation doctors told her the cancer had spread into her lymph nodes which resulted in a second operation.

In 2012, Donna says she was told her body was clear of cancer but she underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy throughout the year.

Sadly three and a half years later the 39-year-old was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer which has led to the disease spreading into her liver, bones and lungs.

The mother-of-two has been told her condition is incurable and she is undergoing palliative chemotherapy in Alaw Ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd on a weekly basis.

Donna, who previously worked for Dunn & Ellis Chartered Accountants in Porthmadog, says she is now remaining positive for her children, six-year-old Danial and 10-year-old Cian.

She told the Cambrian News: “I have to stay positive; it’s the only way I can keep going. I have been open and honest with my children about my treatment and condition from the start; they know everything, which I thought was very important.

“At the moment I’m looking at lots of different treatments, that’s what I do nearly every day, I’m hopeful something is out there which can help me.”

Donna (pictured above) is also holding a fundraiser on Saturday, 11 June, to raise funds for three chosen charities – the Alaw Ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd, The Osborne Trust and The Little Brown Dog Rescue.
