A SARN mother will take on the London Marathon later this year in memory of her mum.

Kelly Williams, 37, will run the 26 miles to raise awareness and funds for Pancreatic Cancer Action in memory of her mum who died from the disease in May 2015.

Kelly’s mum, Gwen Booth, was ill for a while before diagnosis but it was simply put down to a bug and indigestion until her symptoms drastically worsened. Gwen started to lose weight, was unable to eat very much and started feeling sick so she finally went to her GP and eventually had a CT scan.

On 21 April, Gwen was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and a secondary cancer in her liver. Sadly, she passed away just 15 days after diagnosis. Her family now know that her symptoms are common for pancreatic cancer.

Kelly, who lives on her dairy farm with her five children and husband, said: “I have been so lucky to be given this opportunity to take part in this year’s London Marathon for Pancreatic Cancer Action.

"We need more awareness, more funding and more courses for doctors about signs and symptoms of pancreatic cancer so we can get earlier diagnosis.”
