ORGANISERS of a festival credited with having helped “put Lampeter on the map” have reluctantly postponed next year’s event due to a lack of volunteers and funding.

Two years ago renowned Welsh composer Karl Jenkins headlined the Lampeter Festival of World Sacred Music which drew large audiences at numerous venues in the town over a three-day period.

But Eva Skalla, the festival’s artistic director, revealed this week that next year’s festival, scheduled for March, will not now be going ahead.

“We would love to do it again but we need more financial support and more volunteers,” she told the Cambrian News.

“Ill-health among some of the organisers also hasn’t helped.

“It’s very difficult to stage such an event in the current financial climate, but I’m hoping things will get better.

“The festival will definitely return and, considering the exciting projects going on at Lampeter University, I think it’s very important that it does.”
