A FESTIVAL at the centre of a council controversy will take place this bank holiday.
The event is expected to attract hundreds of visitors to Tywyn’s seafront for the festivities.
Much of the ire at the public session held before the usual council meeting was directed towards Gwynedd councillor Mike Stevens who had voiced concerns about the effect the burger van booked for the event would have on local businesses.
At the heated council meeting, Cllr Stevens assured locals that he had no objections to the festival going ahead but had just wondered whether the food van would detract business from local traders.
Organisers of the festival suggested that Cllr Stevens reasons for raising objections were “personal” as he used to run similar events on the town’s promenade, which included refreshment trucks.
Speaking at the meeting, Cllr Stevens assured the assembly of locals that he would support the event and suggested he would ask Gwynedd Council to pay for the fireworks at the close of the event.
The free event will take place on Bank Holiday Sunday (26 August) on Tywyn’s promenade.
The event will start at midday and finish with a firework extravaganza at 11pm with a series of amusements, live music, DJ sets and refreshments available throughout the day.
