A MUTUAL love of music has led to a Tywyn couple celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this weekend.

George and Marg Hickman (pictured) retired to the Meirionnydd coast from the Midlands over three decades ago where they have since become an integral part of the area’s cultural scene.

George, 91, and Marg, 84, will enjoy their 60 years of marriage surrounded by their three sons, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren as well as relatives from all over the UK.

Some of the family’s relations are even flying over from Canada.

The wedded pensioners met all those years ago through a mutual friend and instantly bonded over a love of music.

George plays the clarinet and Marg sings and both are very adept on the piano and still enjoy playing together to this day.

In fact nonagenarian George has recently taken up the ukelele and is teaching himself to play.

According to Marg, the secret to a long and lasting relationship is communication and never keeping secrets from one another.

Trish Holt, Marg and George’s soon-to-be daughter-in-law, said: “They’re a wonderful couple, always chattering away together, day in and day out. We’re looking forward to celebrating their diamond anniversary as a family.”
