Madam,

During 2011, I was conducting a concert in August in our twin town of Kronberg. There were a few hundred people in the audience and they gave all the young people an outstanding ovation.

If one remembers, in 2011 many towns and cities were experiencing riots and a very high crimewave by young people and it was happening at the same time as we were in Germany. If one remembers, Germany offered to take the Olympics away from the UK as there was so much disorder.

Anyway the local person in charge of the place we gave the concert had an outstanding ovation too.

She said to the audience that if the many young people who were rioting were achieving and playing music like these young people were today they would not be rioting in the streets. These young people are a credit to themselves, their twin town of Aberystwyth and their country of Wales.

That is the importance of music tuition and sport, too, for the future of our young people.

Beware of these proposed cuts to Ceredigion Music Service.

Yours etc, Alan Phillips, Recently retired Head of Brass in Ceredigion.
