A popular Machynlleth pub, a staple on the entertainment scene in the town, is at “critical risk” due to the coronavirus crisis, it has been warned.

Y Llew Coch, on Heol Maengwyn, has been added to the ‘red list’ of endangered music venues by a trust which deemed it to be at “critical risk” due to the Covid crisis.

The Music Venue Trust - which represents hundreds of UK grassroots music venues - said Y Llew Coch, along with 20 others across the country remain in imminent danger of permanent closure.

The pub’s owner, Sam Hill, said he was doing “everything possible” to keep the venue open.

He said: “With the current situation times are very uncertain and we are doing everything we can to keep our great venue and home going. When we can open again, we want to be here for you. So many venues are being lost and we don’t want to be another statistic. We are a major part of the local community.”

Mark Davyd, CEO of Music Venue Trust, said: “The crisis is nearing its final lap, but we need to make sure these venues finish the race.”
