A popular musician will bring some early Christmas magic to a fundraising concert at a Llyn church.

‘Nadolig efo Al Lewis a’r Band’ (‘Christmas with Al Lewis and the Band’) will be held at Llanengan Church on Saturday, 30 November and this event will see Al return home to Pen Llyn to perform.

Hunaniaith, the Gwynedd Welsh language initiative, has supported parishioners to organise the concert as a way of promoting Welsh-language activities in this part of Llyn.

Al Lewis is well-known for his songs Llosgi and Heulwen o Hiraeth, and most recently for being one of the team that adapted Kate Roberts’ classic Te yn y Grug for the stage for the National Eisteddfod’s 2019 show.

Last year he released his fourth Welsh-language album, Pethe Bach Aur which includes a duo with the singer Kizzy Crawford from Merthyr.

Al said: “I’m very much looking forward to coming home to perform on Llyn and especially so in such as charming setting as St Engan’s Church. It will be a special evening I’m sure.”

Cllr Dewi Roberts, the local Gwynedd Council member for the Abersoch area added: “Al is a local lad from Llanengan who has made his mark in the professional music world and we are so proud to be able to welcome him home for this special evening.

“I’m sure Llanengan’s historic church will be full to the rafters as people will enjoy the Christmas atmosphere.”

Proceeds from the evening will go towards St Engan’s Church. Tickets are £12.50 from Londis, Abersoch, Siop Llangian and BBs hairdressers on Cardiff Road, Pwllheli.
