A group of Lampeter musicians have donated over £500 worth of food to the town’s foodbank.
The musicians, who all play in normal time at the Ginger Ale Factory in Lampeter, recorded an album remotely and mixed it together. It was then sold in the town to raise money for the local foodbank.
They have sold 100 copies so far and plan on pressing another 200 CDs in the hope to raise more money for the worthy local cause.
Some of the musicians visited the foodbank last week to drop off their donation of supplies purchased with the CD funds.
Eileen Watt from Lampeter Foodbank said this donation was the biggest single donation the foodbank had received in its eight years.
The foodbank is led by eight committee members and has around 20 volunteers.
Eileen said: “‘We’re so happy to receive this donation, especially at this time.”
Megan Sutherland, of the duo Serendipity and who, solo, opens the CD with a beautifully moving, little-known cover of a love song, said: “When I initially heard about the Ginger Ale Factory’s charity CD project to help with donations to the foodbank, I immediately wanted to take part.
“Covid-19 has had a huge impact on just about everyone and everything worldwide, but there exists a detrimental effect on families and individuals who already struggle to afford food in usual circumstances.
“Doing this project allows the foodbank to acquire enough food necessary to aid a great amount of people, and it’s an honour to be able to contribute to such a relevant and necessary cause in these times.
“What I hope will occur from this project is a constant supply of food from the foodbank to aid those in need, so that they don’t have to deal with the unneeded stress of affording food on top of everything else that’s going on.”
Steve Edwards, owner of the Ginger Ale Factory, formerly The Old Quarry, who set up the project, added: “The project has been such a success. People’s support and generosity has been really heartening.”
