MYSTERY surrounds the death of a Llanfarian man whose body was discovered at his home by his parents in August.

The parents of Andie McGill, formerly known as Andrew Jones, found him dead in his living room after becoming concerned that they hadn’t heard from him in 10 days, an inquest in Aberystwyth heard.

In a statement to the inquest, Mr McGill’s mother Yvonne Jones said she “felt that something was not right” after her 52-year-old son did not answer her calls and missed a planned visit.

“We went in to the house and the first thing was a bad smell - I knew it was the smell of death,” Mrs Jones said.

“We could see his feet, he was on his knees wedged between two chairs like he was looking for something.”

While police ruled out any third-party involvement, the cause of Mr McGill’s death was listed as unascertained due to the decomposition of the body.

Mr McGill suffered from “chronic disabilities” due to “long-term physical and psychological problems,” the inquest heard.

He also had a “long-term regular alcohol consumption”.

Recording a verdict of death by natural causes, Ceredigion coroner Peter Brunton said: “It’s impossible to say how or when he died.

“His frailty combined with long-term alcohol consumption are all factors that might have caused his death.”

Mr McGill was found dead on Monday, 22 August.
