A GRANDFATHER-OF-SIX is worried that it is “only a matter of time” before a fatal accident occurs on a well-used Meirionnydd road.
Dr Steve Rollins, who lives in Happy Valley, is fearful that the lack of a speed limit and road safety furniture on the back road linking Tywyn and Pennal will cause a serious injury, or even death.
Drivers using satellite navigation are frequently directed down the narrow lane, which is unsuitable for large goods lorries, and drivers who are not familiar with the dangerous road often drive “too quickly” through the valley, he said.
Worse still, a section of the road approaching Pennal is adjacent to a steep incline where drivers or pedestrians would be terribly, if not fatally, wounded should they fall down the bank, according to Dr Rollins.
“Everyone around here is very worried about what might happen,” Dr Rollins told the Cambrian News.
“Especially in summer, people drive way too quick along the road, even where there’s a blind bend.
“Not a day goes by you don’t see the detritus of a broken headlight or a wing mirror on the road where vehicles have clipped the bank or another vehicle.
“It just goes to show how dangerous it is, especially for cyclists, pedestrians or motorbike riders.
“I myself have nearly been thrown over the edge as a pedestrian by irresponsible drivers. Something needs to be done and quickly.”
