ABERYSTWYTH Town Council should thank volunteers who have seen the Penglais Nature Park flourish since its establishment 25 years ago, a councillor has said.

Aberystwyth North councillor Mark Strong said volunteers deserved the thanks of the town council after announcing that it was celebrating a quarter century since it was established.

Speaking at a full meeting of Aberystwyth Town Council last week, Cllr Strong said: “Penglais Nature Park; the annual meeting was a couple of weeks ago and after the nature park received a grant from the town council and Tesco and the Cambrian News, there has been a considerable amount of work.

“This has been reported at the annual meeting, which the community was very pleased with, but also it is 25 years since the park was established.

“I think it is worth the town council perhaps meeting the people involved to congratulate them.

“A number of people have shown great commitment in volunteering their time over the last 25 years.

“I think it is appropriate for the town council to show that we respect the commitment a number of individuals have shown to their community.

“I think that needs to be appreciated and emphasised. It is a wonderful resource.”
