As Euro 2016 fever grips the country, Bala is exploring the possibility of giving Welsh legend Gareth Bale the freedom of the town.

Bala received international attention after it temporarily changed its name to ‘Bale’ for the Euro 2016 championship to support the national team.

Now Bala’s county councillor wants to go one step further by making the Welsh wizard the first person in the town’s history to enjoy the prestigious honour.

Dilwyn Morgan, Gwynedd councillor for Bala town, said: “I want to do this because Gareth Bale is such a valuable ambassador for Wales, and because he is now connected with our town.

“I will need to do some research, but I hope to discuss the possibility of such honour with Bala Town Council at their next meeting.”
