THREE-WEEKLY bin collections are causing “considerable concern” to many residents and have been labelled a “health hazard” by Machynlleth councillors.

The three-weekly collections were introduced in November in a cost-cutting plan by Powys council, and Machynlleth councillors have warned that residents are “already struggling”.

Cllr Monica Atkins (right) told members at a meeting last week that she knew people who “are already struggling with this” and “deserve better”.

“Don’t Powys know how important health is?” she said.

“This should have been sorted a long time ago and it’s simply not good enough.

“Collecting waste every three weeks is a health hazard.”

Cllr Michael Williams said: “It is causing considerable concern to a lot of people in the town.

“A lot of councils have done this, but that’s not to say it’s right for us.”
