CARDIGAN’s new library in Morgan Street was officially opened on Thursday by Ceredigion County Council chairman Cllr Lynford Thomas who described it as “a great privilege”.

He added: “I believe that being able to house all the services in one location will be of great benefit to the residents and visitors of Cardigan.”

The building reopened in July following adaption to accommodate the new facility on the ground and first floors.

Cllr Dafydd Edwards, Cabinet member with responsibility for finance, ICT and customer services, outlined the background to the development.

“The building consists of a public library, customer services, social care services and lifestyle services,” he said.

“By bringing many services under one roof, it will result in significant annual revenue savings which will support the retention of council services in the town centre.”

Guests were welcomed to the opening by leader of the council, Cllr Ellen ap Gwynn.

“Many people were involved in making this relocation and development project happen and I’d like to thank everyone for their hard work and contribution,” she said.
