Madam,

The plan for the residential block at Plas Morolwg is available as application A170922 at https://forms.ceredigion.gov.uk/ufs/DESH_PLANNING_APPS.eb?ebd=0&ebp=40&ebz=2_1508940147800

I’d like to suggest that readers have a look and send in comments by clicking on the ‘contact us’ button on the website. This will bring up a postage stamp-size place for them to respond to this disingenuous application.

In this instance, the plan is for just one block. It shows a building that is set 50 feet further forward and is two storeys higher than the old Plas Morolwg (which let us remember was itself considered an eyesore!) and should be rejected on its own lack of merit as: blocking the view of Pen Dinas from town, not in keeping with the architectural style of the area, generating too much traffic for a narrow road, and looming over the neighbours on Pen yr Angor.

What is more, an examination at the whole proposed development shows a huge ‘hospital-like’ edifice completely unsuited to the lower slopes of Pen Dinas.

If this initial block gets approval, I can just imagine that the application for the next phase will say that there is a precedent in terms of height, archictecture, and siting and so it should be passed through with little fuss.

I am not against development, and the town needs more appropriate housing, but the opportunity should be taken to build a more attractive structure than the old Plas Morolwg, not an urban monstrosity (as noted also by RA Jones in last week’s letters).

Yours etc,

Lynda Thomas, Aberystwyth.
