CHILDREN in Harlech have somewhere new to play thanks to the efforts of a local group.

Llyn y Felin Play Park, near the castle, has been officially opened with a special ribbon cut by Mwyfanwy Jones, a long-time resident of Harlech, who lives opposite the park.

In a short opening speech, she praised the small Harlech Community Parks Group for the efforts they had put in to getting the general park area cleared up and ready for opening.

And she added that she would be pleased to once again enjoy seeing the children play and the park being used.

Many of the children enjoyed having their faces painted, their hair coloured or a glitter tattoos painted on their arms during the opening ceremony event.

A spokesperson for Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service, said: “As part of the wider regeneration package (in Harlech), we provided further financial support to improve the Llyn y Felin children’s play and leisure facilities, working with local stakeholders to deliver the project, which was completed this year.

“The new facilities will benefit both the local community and visitors to the World Heritage Site alike.”
