New Quay and District Society
An excellent, and informative, evening was held on Thursday, when the lower room of the Memorial Hall, was transformed into a temporary studio.
Under the expert guidance of Aled Dafis and Peter Kemp, members were encouraged to experiment with various combinations of, synchronised, lighting, for both portrait and table-top photography.
The next meeting, an evening with Ian Richardson, will be on 19 November at 7.30pm. New members are always welcome.

Royal British Legion
The grand sum of £2,847.11 was raised at the Royal British Legion Remembrance Service.
The service was held on Sunday, 8 November, in the Memorial Hall, and was conducted by the Rev Judith Morton, Rev Matthew Baynham and Church Warden Richard Iwanek.
A large number of the community were present resulting in a collection for the poppy appeal of £346.63.
The organ was played by Louise Broome and the exhortation was delivered by Gareth Thomas (Royal Marines) in English and by Major Jim Evans in Welsh.
Ossie Evans delivered the Kohima epitaph in both English and Welsh. Graham Lane, from Dihewyd, sounded Last Post and Reveille.
Wreaths were laid by local organisations including: New Quay branch RBL, New Quay Town Council, RNLI, Fire Brigade, Guides, and Coastguard.
A wreath was also laid by Gareth Thomas on behalf of The Royal Marines, of which he is a serving member.
The AGM of the branch was held on Monday, 9 November. The meeting was well attended.
The outgoing chairperson thanked her committee for all their work during the year and said despite the lack of new members it had been a successful year as far as Remembrance and the poppy appeal was concerned.
She thanked the secretary for helping to keep the show on the road and to outgoing treasurer Peter Shaw for over 10 year’s work for the branch.
The 2014/15 poppy appeal produced a total of £4,007.94.
This is the first time for a number of years that they have topped £4,000.
She went on to welcome Avril Watters as the new branch president, a post previously held by her father.
She finished by saying she hoped the branch could continue in the future to carry on its work on behalf of the armed forces community and their dependants.
The following having been proposed and seconded were elected or re-elected: president, Avril Watters; chairman, John Evans; vice-chair, Julie Thomas; secretary, Major (Retd) Jim Evans; treasurer, Graham Collins; poppy appeal, Julie Thomas; membership, Peter Shaw; welfare, Major (Retd) Jim Evans.
The dates for branch meetings in 2016 were agreed as 8 February, 11 April, 13 June, 12 September, 10 October, 7 November (AGM) and 12 December. The meetings will be held at 6.30pm.
