Walkers

THE WALKERS chose countryside south of Llandysul for their February meeting, on a cold and dry Saturday morning with occasional weak sunshine. Led by Jack Davies, 14 walkers with five dogs met in the town car park for a six-and-a-half mile circular walk which began by taking the main road through the town aiming for the start of the disused railway track at Pont Tyweli. After an enjoyable stroll along the partly wooded trail, the route followed some minor lanes uphill before entering a conifer woodland near Penpynfarch. Lunch was taken in the woods before climbing further to the highest section of the walk beyond Penpistill Farm. Pleasant views of the surrounding countryside were enjoyed as the walk continued along farm tracks, a road and field paths. The walk was completed with a steep descent to Heol y Dderwen and back through Llandysul to the car park in good time to enjoy the rugby on television in the Porth Hotel. The next walk is on Saturday, 12 March, a seven-mile circular walk taking in Aberaeron, Llanerchaeron and Aberarth, further details from Glyn on 01545 561285. Meet outside the library building in Market Street at 10.30am.

Art Club

INA Parry organised a workshop on experimenting with Yupo paper for the art club on Tuesday, 9 February. The paper has a waterproof surface on which acrylics, watercolours, oil pastels can be used to draw. Colours can be moved and mixed on the paper’s surface or removed completely to start a fresh painting. It was messy and great fun with suprising results.

Cross Inn WI

LAST Monday evening, Cross Inn WI greeted new visitors in the form of two black labradors and their owner, Rory Roberts, from Newcastle Emlyn. Rory told us she had been blind for over 30 years and gave us a lively and informative talk on the training of dogs for the blind and their owners. As she talked, both dogs, Tilly, now retired at the age of 12 and her young recruit, Nutmeg, who was only five, attempted to join in with nudging noses and wagging tails, casting avaricious glances at the plate of biscuits beside them on the table. At the end of her talk, fortified with tea and biscuits, Rory was inundated with questions about her life with her two faithful friends and the marvellous work the charity does in training the dogs. Eventually, members had to send them on their way so that we could get on with the WI business of the evening! The next meeting is on Monday, 14 March with a members evening endeavouring to introduce newer members to the mysteries of the WI in the form of a question and answer session.
