A NEW ‘safe space’ has been opened for youngsters in Blaenau Ffestiniog.

Police in the town have secured funding to help create a safe zone on the Hafan Deg estate in the town for the local community, and youngsters in particular, to congregate and socialise.

Local PCSO Emma Jones, who secured the funding from PACT (Police and Community Trust) said: “During routine patrols around the estate it was noticeable local people, and children in particular, had nowhere to congregate and I’d often chat to them whilst they were sat on pavements or in car parking areas.

“The £500 funding from PACT has enabled the creation of a small but safe area for us to meet, chat and more importantly for the children to play without worrying about traffic.”
