Warning signs put up after a dad died saving his six-year-old son in an estuary off Borth y Gest beach have been welcomed.
Dr James Lincoln drowned on 5 August while saving his son at the estuary off Borth y Gest beach, near Porthmadog.
Emergency services were called to the scene and an inshore lifeboat was launched from Criccieth.
Dr Lincoln was flown to Ysbyty Gwynedd hospital in Bangor by Wales Air Ambulance but sadly died that evening.
The signs, which warn of the potentially dangerous conditions around the area, have been installed in the hope of avoiding a repeat of the tragic death of Dr Lincoln.
Cllr Simon Brooks, who represents Borth y Gest, said: “I was glad to hear that signs have been erected.
“This was a terrible tragedy, and once again I would like to convey my sincerest condolences to the family on behalf of the community.
“It is right that steps are taken so that we can do everything we can that nothing like this happens again.”
A Gwynedd Council spokesperson said: “Although stunningly beautiful, the coastline and the sea can be a dangerous, unpredictable and a hazardous environment.
“Whenever someone is concerned regarding people getting into difficulties at sea, we would urge them to immediately contact the emergency services by telephoning 999 and asking for the Coastguard.
“We can confirm that a number of new signs emphasising this safety message have been installed at the entrance to the small coves in the area and on the approach to the beach in Borth y Gest.”
Dr Lincoln’s inquest was held last week, and a verdict of accidental death was recorded.
