AN ABERYSTWYTH hairdresser who has raised nearly £17,000 for good causes in recent years is appealing for help with another fundraiser.
After raising money for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Bronglais Hospital while losing six stone in weight, Nia Gore is now organising another fundraiser – a tractor run on 3 October.
She is appealing for support from farmers for the tractor run, which will start and finish at Aberystwyth Mart in Lovesgove and is in memory of her grandfather Ken Hughes.
Nia, who did a 5k run last year and raised £1,425 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit, is seen handing over her cheque to Consultant Oncologist Dr Elin Jones.
She also raised a similar amount for Blood Bikes Aberystwyth.
In the last five years, Nia and her family, of Comins Coch, near Aberystwyth, have raised £16,800 for good causes, though tractor runs, coffee mornings and a head shave.
Nia wanted to thank everyone who supported her in the challenge and donated to her fundraising.
She says her latest endeavour was a huge personal milestone.
“I had never run until July last year, after losing five and a half stone.
“At the time of the charity challenge, I had lost six stone in 18 months,” she said.
“My husband, Dusty, was diagnosed with neck and throat cancer five years ago, but thankfully has now had the all-clear.
“My dadcu also had cancer,” Nia added.
Dr Elin Jones said: “Thank you to Nia for being such an inspiration in her fundraising, but also in doing something so positive for herself with her impressive weight loss.”
For more details on the tractor run or to enter, you can ring Nia on 07968 652822.
Entry for a tractor or 4x4 costs £10.
There will be refreshments and a raffle at the end.
Proceeds from the tractor run will again go to Bronglais Hospital Chemotherapy Day Unit and Blood Bikes Aberystwyth.
The money raised for Bronglais does not replace NHS funding, but is used to provide additional services and activities, such as offering additional patient comforts to make time spent in hospital more comfortable; Providing the most up-to-date medical equipment for diagnosis and treatment; Creating more welcoming surroundings for patients, their families and sta?; Supporting staff learning and development and wellbeing initiatives; Enhancing care in our local communities; Funding research projects to improve our understanding of new and emerging treatments and Delivering healthy living and health promotion initiatives.
Blood Bikes Wales’ Aberystwyth crew offer a vital service for mid and north Wales, delivering medicines, bloods and other medical needs. The Aberystwyth crew, who recently received a new bike, cover from Llanbrynmair in the north to Rhayader in the east and Cardigan in the south.
