A CHARITABLE Aberystwyth woman will hold two big fundraising events for charities which helped care for her late grandfather.
In July, Nia Gore’s grandfather Ken Hughes, a well-known farmer and agricultural contractor from Comins Coch, passed away surrounded by family at his Troedrhiwgwynau farm home.
Nia said the “amazing” and “compassionate” help of two charities, Help at Home Aberystwyth Volunteering (HAHAV) and Severn Hospice, allowed the fulfilment of Ken’s final wish — to die peacefully at home with dignity.
And Nia’s efforts to help both charities continue their work will start with a coffee morning in aid of HAHAV this Saturday, between 10am and noon, at Rhydypennau Village Hall.
This will be followed on Sunday, 15 October, with a memorial tractor run starting at 1pm from Aberystwyth Livestock Market, Lovesgrove.
Nia’s daughter Elin featured in the Cambrian News last year after she raised almost £2,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support after her father, Nia’s husband Dusty Gore, was diagnosed with cancer.
Speaking to the Cambrian News this week, Nia said: “We did it last year when my husband was ill with cancer, and so I wanted to support something that had helped us again.
“Before my grandfather died, he wanted to come home from hospital to die, which meant we needed people to help care for him.
“We got in touch with Help at Home and they arranged for Severn Hospice to come and help care for him.
“The service has been a great help. We struggled during the day to look after our grandfather and HAHAV was a life saver for us."
