THE go-ahead has finally been given for a community group to purchase the old Tregroes School from Ceredigion County Council at a cost of £25,000 following a nine-year fund-raising battle.
The purchase of the old school near Llandysul, now 138 years old, will see the hard-working Tregroes and District Village School Committee of 18 raising more funds to ensure vital building work can be undertaken.
“This is very good news,” said committee member Beth Davies. “The committee has worked so hard over the last few years and finally it’s an excellent opportunity for us to proceed with its purchase.
“The committee and the church has worked well together in ensuring committee events have been held to raise money to purchase the school, and now we have reached our target.”
Many events have been held over the years to raise the vital funds needed, including a celebration of the 250 years since the birth of Christmas Evans and a concert to celebrate 100 years of the well-known local author, T Llew Jones.
Chairman of the Tregroes and District Village School Committee Cllr Peter Davies is looking forward to seeing the building work begin.
