Madam,
Thanks to the advert and feature you published for us (14 Feb, ‘Time for local action on global climate emergency’), 91 local people crammed into Victoria Hall to see the Extinction Rebellion film and discuss what we can do about the serious Climate Emergency that we are all facing.
We’ll be continuing to meet as Extinction Rebellion Lampeter - look out for posters, and check Facebook. Please join us if you are willing to volunteer your time to spread the word, and put pressure on governments to mobilise immediately. You don’t have to take to the streets - backup is needed in many ways!
In the meantime, do sign the Avaaz petition to the town council asking them to create a zero-carbon plan benefitting the local economy, health, transport and agriculture, and increasing local resilience to climate impacts. Search for 'Avaaz Lampeter Town Council'. They will be discussing their response to it at the public town council meeting at 7.30pm on Thursday, 28 February.
Another petition calls on the National Assembly for Wales to urge the Welsh Government to declare an immediate climate emergency. By June, legally-binding policies - overseen by a new Citizens’ Assembly of Wales - must be enacted, to reach zero carbon emissions by 2025.
Search on the www.assembly.wales site for 'Declare a Climate Emergency'.
“Now is the time for action. If not us, who? If not now, when?”
Yours etc, Dr Vole, for Transition Llambed.
