I refer to your article “Inspectors to consider Aldi plan for Aber store” (Cambrian News, 12 December).
I wrote to the Cambrian News previously when there was concern expressed over the proposed Aldi store at the former Kwik Save site. I cannot remember this area ever flooding.
My point is this, that the river has been in flood several times but never posed a problem to this area. Planning was given for the DyfedPowys Police divisional headquarters and that is right on the bank of the Rheidol.
Planning was given for the flats at Aber FC ground, which again is on the bank of the Rheidol. Planning was also given for the site that holds Matalan, Pets at Home, Peacocks and where Home Bargains are now. That has never had problems and yet planning consent was given, so what’s the need for inspectors as this area has not only proved to be flood-free but historically safe.
More recently the Tesco/M&S site was given permission and flats were built opposite the site where the Sea Cadet Hall was, which again is close to the river. I rest my case.
