Madam,

It is heartening to see that many shops and cafes are making attempts to cut down on plastic waste. I should like to highlight the reluctance of the supermarkets to act in a similarly responsible way.

For months I have been battling with Morrisons, where many of the apples are only available as pre-packs of six, every single swede is shrink-wrapped, and every single cauliflower and cabbage is in a plastic bag. There is absolutely no need for such waste.

Fruit and vegetables keep far fresher for far longer when they are not wrapped in plastic. Of course that is precisely the reason why supermarkets do wrap everything in sweaty packs! Think about it.

Yours etc,

Mrs H A Peters, Salem, Penrhyncoch.
