Madam,

The comments by Arfon Jones, North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, in last week’s Cambrian News, about the new police station in Tywyn are all well and good, but there is no point in having a police station if there are no police officers in it.

The fact that he is opening new police stations in Llay and Llandudno won’t wash with the people down here in Tywyn. We are in the North Wales Police region but it certainly doesn’t feel like it.

Tywyn is plagued by a gang of ‘boy racers’ who seem to delight in making people’s lives a complete misery, tearing round the town in the small hours with their ridiculous exhausts.

I’ve spoken to Arfon Jones and various senior police officers about this problem and they’ve collectively said there’s no funding to deal with the situation, or to phone 101 and report it.

Anyone who’s tried to phone 101 quickly loses the will to live as it is almost impossible to get through to them. It’s a complete joke although the people of Tywyn are certainly not laughing. It’s not good enough Mr Jones!

Yours etc, Louise Hughes, county councillor, Llangelynnin Ward.
