A Llanon road traffic campaigner has been assured that highways engineers are planning to raise the level of a traffic warning sign completely obscuring a bus stop sign in her home village.

Sue Slocombe hit out last month at the "farce" which she felt would result in bus drivers careering past the stop.

Branding the bus stop as "totally useless" she demanded an explanation from transport chiefs having taken photos of the sign situated opposite Heol Non.

“The traffic warning sign completely obliterates the bus stop sign,” she said.

“Imagine you are coming from a southerly direction, past Chapel Street on the left and just a bit further on is the traffic warning sign.

“The bus stop sign has been placed behind this - on the same pole - hence no one can see it!”

Mrs Slocombe has now been told in an email that her concerns have been forwarded to trunk road engineers.

“A replacement lighting column was installed adjacent to the bus stop in Llanon to support a new warning sign that informs drivers of the new part-time speed limit,” said a spokesperson.

“The new sign will be raised to a higher position on the same lighting column so as not to obscure the bus stop sign and allow both to be viewed as intended.

“The work to raise the sign will be completed before the Christmas break.”

Giving her reaction, Mrs Slocombe said: “Although they are telling me things I already knew, all I can say is: ‘tah-dah!’”
