TWO former north Ceredigion schools are to be sold following their closure last year.

The council closed Cwmpadarn and Llangynfelyn schools in the summer of 2016 as part of a shake-up of education in the Aberystwyth and north Ceredigion area.

Council Cabinet members have agreed to the sale of the Cwmpadarn School building on the open market. Checks are also to be carried out to see if two parties named on the conveyance for Ysgol Llangynfelyn want to buy the building at market value, otherwise the council will sell that property on the open market.

The sale of Cwmpadarn School would likely take place in September after work on Hyfforddiant Ceredigion Training’s current building is completed.

While work on the roof of HCT’s Llanbadarn Fawr premises is taking place over the next few months, HCT is currently using the school building on a temporary basis. However, once that work is completed the council would be able to put the property up for sale with interest already shown by a local yoga group.

However, the sale of Ysgol Llangynfelyn would be more complicated with a condition of the conveyance that led to the acquisition of the property meaning that it must first be offered to the descendants of the Bishop of St Davids or to the owners of a local farm.
