A BRITISH Olympian who won a medal at the Rio games is competing in Bala this weekend.

Chris Grube, who won bronze with Luke Patience in the 470 dinghy race, will be returning to Bala Sailing Club on Sunday, hopefully partnered with a second Olympic sailor from the GB team.

David Church, a representative of the sailing club which Chris describes as one of his favourites, was delighted to see the bronze medallist in Meirionnydd.

“He may not have his 470 Olympic boat with him, but is expected to be sailing something perhaps even more fantastic, as he will be competing in the Foiling Moths Grand Prix,” David said.

“If you have not seen Foiling Moths, they are spectacular, extremely fast, and magically hover two to three feet above the water as they sail along.

“Obviously we at Bala Sailing Club have had several opportunities to watch Chris ‘flying’ his Moth amongst us in club events, but this Sunday would make a marvellous opportunity to see an athlete at the height of his powers competing with other top-class sailors.”
