If I want to alter my home in a major way I have to apply for planning permission from the council, which apart from the cost is fair enough.
So why doesn’t the reverse apply? Namely if the county council wants to alter our environment then they should seek our permission, although we won’t charge.
I refer to the fact that the council wishes to install a footpath/cycleway from Penrhyncoch to Ibers. Excellent and well done on getting the funding from the Welsh Government. But why do they need to remove approximately hundreds of beech trees that form a half-mile hedge alongside the road without consulting the residents?
Surely to build the path on the other side of the hedge would mean that an environmentally friendly crash barrier would be gained free of charge?
Why not hold a public meeting to consult local residents? Isn’t that democracy?
Also, and I am no expert, but what about the birds and bats that use the hedge as their home and shelter? A newly planted hedge will take years to provide the same cover.
Finally, they apparently plan for pedestrians and cyclists to cross the road three times. Will there be either traffic lights, speed humps or speed cameras, or all three, to prevent accidents?
We need an open meeting before plans are approved.
