A special gala opera will be held in Bont Pavilion next month to raise money for next year’s National Eisteddfod in Tregaron.

Tenor Robyn Lyn and soprano Rhian Lois, who are both from Pontrhydygroes, will be joined by sopranos Natalya Romaniw and Mary Bevan for a selection of arias and opera scenes in the pavilion on Sunday, 8 December.

Robyn has worked with Britain’s leading opera companies and after Christmas will return to Welsh National Opera to perform in Les Vêpres Siciliennes by Verdi. His services are in great demand in oratorio works and prom concerts. He has performed in most of Britain’s renowned concert halls.

Rhian has also had a busy year performing with English National Opera, the Grange Festival and Music Theatre Wales in Covent Garden, whilst also singing at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest and the Mariinsky Theatre St Petersburg. Her next role in the new year will be the governess in The Turn of the Screw and will appear with the Mumbai Symphony Orchestra later in the year.

In what is a home-coming for Rhian and Robyn, their friends Natalya and Mary also have a huge international reputation, performing at some of the biggest venues on the globe.

All money raised on the day will go towards the Ceredigion Eisteddfod 2020 appeal, for the event to be held in Tregaron in the first week of August.
