Madam,

On reading Caleb Spencer’s article in the Cambrian News of 24 March, I welcome the development for Mid Wales Housing Association of 22 affordable units on the old Tabernacle site in Aberystwyth, but I am also pleased that the local planning authority is investigating whether a potential breach of condition has occurred re whether the required programme of archaeological investigatory works has been carried out - a condition of the build. Any new build in our ancient town should be subject to such investigations, it is our heritage.

With regard to the second on-going probe by the Welsh Government for the development overstepping the extent of the original plans by encroaching onto the pavement in Mill Street, I have to write that every time I drive through Mill Street and notice the four windows overhanging the pavement I envisage any pedestrians walking along that pavement being soaked in any rainfall from the run-off of these protruding v-shaped windows. I also believe that a golden opportunity has been missed to correct the bend in the pavement and main road in what is the busiest street in Aberystwyth, where there is often difficulty for passing traffic. It will be interesting to observe if these over-hanging windows are allowed to remain after the probe.

Yours etc
