Around this time last year I realised that I was losing my eyesight. My peripheral vision was nonexistent, I couldn’t judge depths or distances, there were blinds spots in my vision and I was unable to read or write, the words jiggled and disappeared the more I tried to focus on them.
I had no other symptoms. I made an appointment with the optician Sarah Tidey of Evans and Hughes, Bridge Street, Lampeter and after a few tests she as good as diagnosed a brain tumour.
She sent me straight to the hospital and within weeks I had been passed on to Cardiff University Hospital to have it removed via the nostrils by a neurosurgeon.
The tumour was a benign macro adenoma growing in the pituitary gland. As it got bigger it was pressing on my optic nerve causing the visual disturbance. I am now fully recovered.
As you can imagine the experience was overwhelming for me and I am totally, totally grateful to Sarah Tidey and to the Welsh NHS for restoring my sight. I want everybody to know how amazing they are!
