Madam,

“Money is the root of all evil,” goes the popular song. “The love of money is a root of all kind of evil” is the truth it misquotes. How special and precious is our National Health Service? Compare it with most other countries worldwide and you’ll agree - unbelievably special, enormously precious.

My elderly mother has been in receipt of six months’ chemotherapy at Bronglais Hospital. I cannot praise highly enough the kindness and care she’s received, all without charge.

Last year, my sister in Australia took part in a sponsored race to help pay the $8,000 (approx £4,000) after medical insurance, that a friend’s cancer treatment was going to cost.

Soon we celebrate the birth of Jesus who said re money: “The measure that you give you shall receive to over-flowing.”

My prayer this Christmas is for God’s blessing on our health service for generous funding of it, for a happier, healthier future for all of us.

Happy Christmas to all the kind and gifted staff who man Bronglais; and special thanks from our family to Elin Jones and her team. We are so very grateful.

Yours etc,

Sarah Edwards, Maeshendre, Waunfawr, Aberystwyth.
