Madam,

I hate to say “I told you so”, but, I told you so, Bodlondeb is and was doomed from the outset. Despite the commitment and unstinting efforts of the supporters and the communities affected by such closure, the outcome was predetermined; the ‘consultation’ was a farce which diminishes the integrity of a Cabinet and a Department of Social Services which purport to represent the interests of the communities they ‘serve’.

Over recent years Ceredigion Council has been pro-active in downscaling and terminating any and all possible community initiatives. There is talk of the projects in Tregaron and Cardigan providing a beacon of hope, but when? Not in the lifetime of so many vulnerable members of the community. And now we introduce Plas Morolwg. I must consider that a red herring and even more nebulous in concept than the ‘grand plan’ for the future of social care in Ceredigion.

I re-iterate my previous description of the vulnerable in our community, ‘ostracized’, the health board wanting them out of their ‘system’ at the earliest opportunity, Social Services and their paymasters Ceredigion Council showing little regard for the domestic conditions which hospital patients are discharged into.

Finally I must clarify that I am not ‘councillor bashing’. I have the utmost respect and admiration for the many local and county councillors who work tirelessly for the betterment and future of their communities and electorate.

Yours etc,

Allan Phillips, New Quay.
