An Abersoch man has told the Cambrian News that his recovery from a motorbike crash in Bali is “going well”.
Owi Jones, right, was involved in a crash whilst on holiday in Bali in July. A huge effort was made by Owi’s family and friends to raise the money needed to bring him home.
Now Owi has started to train for his first marathon. He will run the Manchester marathon in April 2020.
Owi said: “I have never done one before, but I am confident in myself. I’ve been steadily training up for that.”
He has come a long way since first being hospitalised in Bali last summer, making good progress in his recovery.
He said: “It’s been as progressive as possible, being stuck in a hospital bed for so long really takes its toll. I was extremely fit prior to the accident, which has helped me out a lot, my cardio is still fairly good, I just need to re strengthen my body.”
Owi also revealed that he had been given advice on how to run a marathon for the first time.
“My best friend’s mother, a keen runner, has advised me to play the slow game to achieve the fastest race time,” he said.
Owi remains positive about his recovery and is focussing on the marathon.
He said: “It is what it is, hard work. I have a good work ethic, so I’ll just keep building up my strength and clocking miles up.”
