THE owners of a dog rescued after clinging desperately to rocks for 24 hours have given their heartfelt thank to villagers of Llangrannog who rallied round in a determined bid to find their missing pet.

Cassie, a two-year-old Bavarian mountain hound, bolted from Penbryn after being attacked by another dog at lunchtime Thursday and owners Mark Kemp and Aimee Hayes had virtually given up hope of ever seeing her again.

But following a fruitless night spent searching the coast path between Penbryn and Llangrannog, the couple were astonished to spot a cold and frightened Cassie marooned on a rocky outcrop in an isolated cove.

Despite an incoming tide, the shivering pooch was subsequently plucked to safety by the New Quay inshore lifeboat before being reunited with an overjoyed Mark and Aimee back on Llangrannog Beach.

“Apart from suffering a bit of exposure Cassie’s fine,” Mark, who comes from Oxfordshire, told the Cambrian News. “She’s happy – and very hungry!

“Having spent most of the night looking for her we had pretty much given up hope.

“But at around 12.30pm on Friday I was scanning this cove with binoculars when I caught a glimpse of this small dog. At first I thought I was imagining things, but then I realised it really was her.

“Amy and I would like to thank the RNLI personnel and coastguards who helped in the search as well as Mickey Beechey for co-ordinating everything.

“And we are also indebted to the simply amazing community response by the people of Llangrannog which has really restored our faith in humanity.

“Staff from the Pentre Inn even joined in the search after finishing their shifts at midnight – how incredible is that? - and we can’t thank everyone enough.”
