Aberaeron parents who organised a charity walk to thank the centre that has helped them with their young daughter, who has cerebral palsy, have hailed their friends and family for their support.
Sera-Jane Thomas and her partner Pete Rogers organised a special Welly Walk at Llanerchaeron on Friday, 19 October with over 50 walkers taking part in the 6km walk.
The walk was organised to raise money for the Bobath Children’s Therapy Centre which Sera-Jane and Pete have been visiting with their young daughter Clara, who has cerebral palsy.
The centre, in Cardiff, provides support to parents of children with cerebral palsy with special sessions that have helped Sera-Jane and Pete learn about ways they can help Clara such as positioning her in a way that will help stop bad habits in terms of posture and in ways that make Clara more comfortable in her car seat.
While the couple had initially set a fundraising target of £250, that has already been smashed, and Sera-Jane said the family were delighted at the level of support.
She said: “The support was amazing and we feel so humbled. We live in an amazing community and the turnout on Friday confirms this.
“We are up to £1,500 on our JustGiving page alone. We’re hoping to possibly make the Welly Walk an annual event.
“To reach a total of £3,000 would be something I would not have thought possible before beginning this fundraising journey, but from my brother’s page and mine plus the donations from the walk, it feels like that amount could be within reach.”
A JustGiving page will also remain open until early November, with anyone wanting to donate able to do so at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sera-jane-thomas
